Where is second vin

OK, I have an 83 ford F100 flareside with a 302. It is just about restored now. The guy that painted the truck removed the VIN before painting. (No idea why) Well, it is missing now. I beleive there is a second vin on the passenger side somewhere on the frame, but I cannot find it. I need to locate a second vin so that I can register the truck and have the cab one replaced. Where exactly is the best place to find it.

It is on top of the the frame, about under the passenger's feet.

You don't have any paperwork with it already? That doesn't sound good.

The frame vin as stated is only a partial.
Sounds to me like the op is talking about the pillar tag being missing.
If the truck has had a new windshield put in, odds are it has the vin cutout in the lower tint strip in the 87-up location, obscuring the 80-86 location.

Then there is the warranty number.
Always a good idea to get paper work/title before starting any restoration.

I have the title as I owned the truck since new. I will check with the DMV to see if that partial vin is good enough after I locate it.

If you have the title, owned since new and the DMV does not have to inspect the vin you should be good to go.

That's the way it works around here. No need to hunt the vin if it's your truck and you still have the paperwork in your name. Even if you had the paperwork in someone else's name, they don't come out to the parking lot at the DMV and look for the numbers.

If you ever sell it, then that could be a different story. If I were buying it I would want to see a vin that matched the title you gave me.

But, what happens when I go to get emissions done and they want to see the vin in the windshield.

I haven't a clue why the body man would remove a tag. Was it rusted out there? He knows better than messing with that tag and how important it is. Did you check what one of the other previous posters said? If you have a new windshield it may be just covering the tag up.

No, he told me he misplaced it.

VIN (Warranty Number) printed on the Certification Label, glued to the left door face below the latch.

Ford says the Warranty Number is not for title or registration purposes, as it's too EZ to change.

The usual reason: People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. Then didn't go to a dealer to get a replacement for the original glued on Certification Label.

Here in CA, this is a PITA as the registered owner with his/her registration, FoMoCo parts manager and the police have to be involved in order to replace this label.

VIN tag located on the left corner of the dash, visible thru the windshield.

It's a felony to remove the VIN tag, the only reasons why someone could have removed it:

(1) To cover up the fact that the truck was stolen.

(2) If the truck was stolen and stripped, then recovered, the DMV may have issued a new VIN. The truck (here in CA, maybe elsewhere) would then have a salvage title.

(3) Truck totaled by the insurance company, then if sold back to the owner, a new VIN may have been issued. Here in CA (maybe elsewhere) would have a salvage title.

CA DMV stamps a metal plate with new VIN, then the plate is either riveted or screwed to the left door face below the latch.

I looked at mine and say some number to the right and below the master cylinder. Is that where yours is?
