Hey so I just went and bought brand new fenders (not original ford) and I have problems gettint the lines to match up on the passenger side only.Driver side went smooth. My biggest gap is between the cal and its pissing me off. the door lines up with the fender but if I raise it to meet the cal it will throw off the door line. Is there any tricks I should know about.... Measurements are same as original fender
That's the best you're gonna get I believe. My 74 is all original in the sheetmetal department and it has a 3/8" gap on the driver's and a 1/2" gap on the passenger.
Ya kind maybe bring the door up a smidge which would help close up the gap when you bring the fender up.
Looks to me like the fender was bent too short on the top.
Can you post a pic of the other side......I agree with Bullitt390, looks like the fender itself is off. If you try to raise the fender the lines of the door won't match and if you raise the door to accomodate, the lines won't match and the door probably won't shut right. Aftermarket sheet metal doesn't always fit well. That could be the problem. I would maybe send it back and get a different one.
The cal seems to be higher on the pass. side . Driver side cal lines up with top door line. I dont know whats goin on there and if that may be an issue
I agree the PS fender appears to too short on the top. Measure the distance from the bottom of the "dent-side" to the top of the fender on both the DS and PS sides. From the picture it looks like the PS will come up short, so I think you need to return that fender and get a new one. If that does turn out to be the case, make sure you have the company measure the replacement fender before they send it out, so you do not relive this nightmare.
@$#% I bought these fenders from some dude last weekend and he said they were never installed. I beleive him there was not a single scratch on them! I did measure the curve part of the fender and it seems to match the other side. I hate when you try to do something right it's never just as easy as a "bolt on".
Do you still have your old PS fender so you can check how it lines up with your other sheet metal? If the problem is indeed with the cowl and not the fender, you may be able to add some metal to the bottom side of the cowl to make the gaps match better. Has this truck ever been in an accident? Can you see anything that would suggest the cowl is out of alignment? Most of the after-market parts I've got never seem to work right out of the box and need to be modified so they will fit. Both the cab corner patch panels I bought had to be cut up and rewelded to make it fit correctly.
I'm starting to think my issue is my door is sagging only on the fender end....I'm gonna try to tweak the door up 1/2 an inch and adjust fender to match. My old fender was lined up nice though

Here is a suggestion: check the hinges. I am going to have to replace the pins in my hinges because one door is sagging (drivers side) anddoesn't line up either. You can get new hinges or hinge pin kits from the "Help!" section in your auto parts store.
I used to own a 78 swb 1/2t 4x4 that was the same way. I even bought oem fenders for it. The lh side fit perfect but rh side had a large enough gap to stick my finger in. I've owned many of these trucks but that was the only one with that problem......until now [/QUOTE]
Not sure if your door is sagging at the hinges, but it does look like the door could go "up" a little to match the cowl and then the fender would go up too closing the gap.
But, all in all, it does look like the fender wasn't made right, the driver's fender has a lot more "meat" above the dent.
