2005 Steering Wheel Controls

Anyone running an aftermarket radio able to use the controls on the steering wheel, I have been looking for a new radio and Crutchfield tells me the wheel controls will not work with my 2005 f250 truck. I would also like it to operate my i-pod. If you are doing this please tell me what sterio set up you have, I'm not set on any certain brand yet. thanks

aftermarket stereo using steering wheel controls

Was wondering if you found out any info on this yet? I have an 05 F-350 SD. has factory 6disc changer. I am adding a aftermarket double din dvd player. was wondering what would need to be done to get steering wheel controls to work. have searched this site ,hear alot about factory conversion but not alot about aftermarket, have heard some talk about an adapter you can get but dont know what it is or where to get it?

Any help would be great

I bought my Pioneer through Crutchfield along with an ipod cable, steering wheel adapter, bluetooth adapter, and backup camera. It all works great in my 05!!!

Here's the steering whell adapter I used: Find Car Audio/Video Gear that Fits Your Vehicle at Crutchfield!

Depends on what aftermarket unit you go with. Once you know that you can select the PAC SWI model that works with that unit.

For example I use the PAC SWI-JACK with my Kenwood unit. JACK stands for Jensen, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood as it is the model that works with those brands.

There'e also a SWI-ECL that works with Eclipse unit, SWI-PS that works with Sony and Pioneer, and the SWI-X which can be programmed to work with most aftermarket units from any manufacturer as long as they come with an IR remote control.

I use a PAC interface with my Alpine in my '05. You'll notice a bit more lag with it then the factory radio but you get used to it. -Paul

Anybody got some wire descriptions to add to this? I am getting ready to wire in my PAC-SWI and was wondering which wire in the factory harness was the input wire for the steering wheel control wire? Any help is appreciated. I have a 2005 Navigator if it helps.

swi-x hook-up

Z06PSI if you are using the SWI-X unit pin 18 in the factory harness (Lt blue/red) at least on 05 f-350 it is.hook swi-x white wire to this wire.
black to ground, and red to 12v switched power, leave purple wire and brown wire looped, do not cut, these will be the only wires you will use. Hope this helps.
