CPS Recall

My buddys 03 died cranks but no fire so I told him check his CPS he called a ford dealerships and talked to them and they said yep more than lickly the cps and told him they had some for $100. I told him I would pull his truck to a parking lot so we could work on it (SUN) and then Mon we could get one well I got to checking on here (on the 03 page) and found that Ford recalled them I called my dealership and they told me they would sell me one for $34.95. I checked ford.com and they say the recall is for 97-03 I ask my dealership and they told me it was 99-03 so I went back to the web and put my VIN in and guess what mine is being recalled as well, cool so this is some info for all of us 97 owners Here is a web page you can read about id and then go check your vin and find out if you need one.

Like what kind of issues, TJ? Do you mean the new cheapy sensors for $15-$30? Is there any scuttlebut on this recall ever covering the 96s?

big 10-4 on the more cilivized. Thats why I am here, and not there.

My new gray CPS from Ebay is in the glovebox. Ford's free one would cost me too much money by the time I got the truck there and back with $3.50 fuel. Sounds like I orta put it on and and make sure it is OK while the old one is still working?

Hey thanks for the info! Now I am thinking maybe I will not put the new one in yet I know my buddys is running better now. But with my luck I will get the bad one. The one inthere now is oem and never been replaced it has 115K on it and is 11 years old that is why I am thinking about changeing it but I will do some more thinking.

Question

I had an appointment set up for today, based on a previous read thread on the recall. But since reading this and the diesel stop threads, I think it might be a better idea just to buy the correct one for a spare and leave things alone. I've never had any problems with the old one, just concerned me when the recall said a collision could result do to engine shutting down. Can some one tell me the right one to buy for my truck. I have a 97' 7.3, the part number and color please. I've heard of three different colors blue, black and gray. Thanks, CJ

Cool

wow, that topic really peeved me, i had to face a living hell working for ford, working 70 hours a week just to get paid 30 repairing diesels under warrenty. i have more training, knowledge and experiance then 90% of those ***** and to sit there and read about them saying that ford techs are idiots and dont know what they are doing grinds my gears. i am so fired up right now i am sweating and its cold in here

while ford lacks alot of good technicians we are out there, and to have us bajored like that just makes them care even less. they have no idea what its like to have to deal with that crap on a daily basis. Ford cutting your pay, knocking time off, saying you dont need to get paid for all of the diag work, saying you only need to do part of the diesel diag sheets. but then kicking your claim for not doing the whole sheet. its a load of crap and it is so stressful its not even funny. and the hotline, while it can be helpfull, is usually not, they are mostly book smart guys who are reading the "fine print" of the manuals to try to point you in the right direction and they sit in front of a computer and read other solutions that fixed a concern similar to yours. the only time i ever dealt with them is when i had a major engine failure (its required) and wheni had a customer in with heavy mods and demanded warrenty repairs (techs can get charged back if ford finds out you fixed it).
but to sit here and read that ford diesel techs cant fix trucks is a load of crap! i am glad i am not a part of that site. i will never read on there again, and i will NEVER offer my assistance to them.
i left ford because i couldnt pay the bills anymore and there was a huge stink with ford over the dealer's warenty repairs and modified trucks. enough was enough, i gave ford my records to keep me in the clear and walked out the door. i have never turned my back on a customer and have always fixed my vehicles properly the first time, i have had many many difficult problems and even had ford engineers call me asking me about issues that they had in other zones. i had an excellent reputation with the ford engineers and most of my customers.
i dont know what else to say, i am so hot right now i dont know what to do with myself

Ah the joys of working in a private shop!! Joe while I do agree there are some Ford techs that know what they are doing with diesels you do have to admit there are many that have no clue. Same across the board for any mechanics. Most have specialized fields or niche's and outside of those they can manage but its alot harder! Dealerships are unique in the fact that corprate has much more to say about repairs than they should.

yup, most dealers have glorified parts changers, and the reputations precede those dealers
