Mounting position on muffler, does it have to be flat?

See i got my Flowmaster muffler installed, and from looking around on the internet people with F-150's show there muffler installed flat, this shop I went to Installed my Flowmaster on an angle not flat and the flowmaster stamp and patent numbers are on top not the bottom, seems they had to flip it to line up with exhaust pipes, runs and sounds great but wondering about the muffler angled like that and not straight flat like others. Does it matter it's been flipped with the flowmaster stamped on the other side which is unreadable? I had to use a mirror to see the patent#'s and there all reversed as the muffler is flipped to fit the plain side is underneath viewable side, where it says " Inlet" it's backwards because of the flip. It's angle which like this / . Wish I had a picture, Just want to know if its hurting anything doesn't have to be perfect, and it is out of sight unless you get down and look under to see it.

Smile muffler flip

As long as the inlet end is connected from the engine, there should be no difference in performance.

No, the muffler can be orientated any way. However, since yours has a specific inlet and outlet, the inlet needs to be installed facing the engine side and not the tailpipe side. Some mufflers do have a condensation hole to allow water to drip out and this should be facing downward. But I wouldn't worry about that with your flowmaster.

If you're refering to mine, it sounds real good at cold start up and then gets pretty quiet once warm, it has a decent rumble at low speeds.

It will probably hold more water in it. A guy I work with has a Dodge piece-o-chit, and his mounted the same way. Fires it up, gives it some gas, and blows water like old faithful for a bit. They could have mounted that flat with somne effort. I'd take it back and make them put it flat, and right-side up, but that's just me.
