Kepler4, why did they replace the turbo ? The reason I ask is that my truck is making a belching noise near the turbo area when I am in the throttle with the SCT set to xtreme race. No sound when on stock. I am not sure if the turbo needs cleaning or it is going. I have an 04 with 58K on it.
The 6.0 heads cannot be "hot studded". Heads must be removed, and deck surface and head surface must be checked for flatness and corrected if out of tolerance. The studs are one of the 4 major fixes to do for ultimate reliability.
#2. Is an egr cooler delete.
#3. Is a fass fuel system.
#4. Oil bypass filtration system.
The rest is preventative maintenance done on time every time.
Tippman - Have you spoken directly with the Diesel Tech at the dealer? Check around with some other service departments for a 6.0 Tech that's 'stud-friendly' if they don't have one. Don't ask the service advisors, speak directly with the technicians. Most SA's have to tow the party line, techs can be a little more flexible.
hey tippman what are you going to tell them if they ask you if you had a tuner hooked up, just dropped mine off tonight with a HG leak at the back both sides... reason i ask is, a tech on the 6.4L page says be up front... then a guy chimed in and said when he was up front the tech threatned to can his warranty andthe dealership ended up putting someone else on the job for him.
what to do?

They opted to replace it instead of cleaning, which I greatly appreciate. I don't have specifics on what the turbo issue was though.

If he asks if I've been running a tuner, I'm going to say this: "What the he!! is a tuner? Are those the things that give you really good gas mileage? I heard ppl talking about those. Does Ford make them or are they aftermarket? Which one do you recommend?" HAHAHAHAHAHA I'm not going to tell them I've used one for obvious reasons.......

Hey Ryan, good to see ya back on the boards.
I have not spoken to anyone about it yet.......should I walk in and ask to speak with the diesel tech and not even say anything to the service rep?
Yes, or better yet, ask the service advisor to speak directly with the tech who will be working on your truck.
so you're saying walk in, and talk to the service advisor about my problem and request them to put in the studs and ask him to speak directly to the tech OR walk in and request to speak to the tech and ask him if he could put in studs
Wow, your making this really harder than it is. Bring your truck in and let the service adviser get you started on the warranty concern/repair. DO NOT MENTION STUDS OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT TO HIM/HER. Then ask him/her to speak with the Tech who will be actually doing the work on your truck. (tell him/her you have some specific technical questions to ask the tech himself) The TECH who is going to be working on your truck is the one to ask about the studs, and no one else, not the service manager or anyone.
Ryan is right, you do NOT want to talk to the service writer about any issue that involves losing your warranty. 9 times out of 10 you are dealing with a politician (SA). These guys almost always do things strictly by the book and they make more money when they sell you more work (if it isn't under warranty the money comes faster and more of it). Talk to your tech and ask him questions, if you don't like the answers take your vehicle to another dealership, and follow the same principal there. Some guys are hardasses and some aren't, but the tech is the one that you need to know and he is the one that can cover your a$$ if a warranty loss issue ever arises. Also, if losing your warranty is a seriously big deal to you, DON'T DO ANYTHING THAT CAN CAUSE THAT. Its that simple.

When I took my truck in a few months ago for head gaskets I asked the Service Writer if the Tech would install ARP Head Studs... he said he would have to ask the Tech first. The Tech said yes no problem. Unfortunatly I didn't have the money for head studs but for future reference and for anyone else in the Las Vegas, NV area, ask for Wally Sky at Ford Country in the Henderson Valley Auto Mall... he is a great service writer. I don't have an aftermarket exhaust or a tuner so I didn't have any issues with them.
when I called to set up an appt. to take my truck in for puking, the service advisor had the shop foreman call me back to answer my questions. He talked to me on the phone for 30-40 minutes about the issues of puking and said that they will install headstuds for 1 hour labor extra. He told me that Ford doesn't approve of anything other than stock parts but that he knows headstuds are much better and has no problem installing them but that I could have problems if I take the truck to other dealers in the future.
So I ended up with warranty covering:
EGR cooler
Headgaskets
new heads (because of hairline cracks)
Turbo (started sticking just after puking started)
And I paid for:
ARP headstuds ($500)
1 hour labor ($110)
And I now have about 7000 miles on since with no problems at all !!!
