Why are headstuds so damn expensive? and im sure the installation is an arm and a leg - saw the process in the latest diesel power.
Probably because of the amount of refining and machining that goes into them. $500 retail isn't really that expensive for something that keeps your heads from blowing out. And yes the install is expensive as the cab has to come off the truck and then you gotta take off the top of the motor. It takes about a day or two to complete.

Better question..why the vast range in costs for the same product...For the fast buck.
Purchased mine on fleabay for 450 shipped! ARP is ARP,no need to
pay someone for thier "name" and overhead..IMO shopping around
on fleabay will lead to better deals...guaranteed. IMO of course
I am trying to get caught up with th 6.0s so bear with me..... Is it possible to change headstuds one by one without the cab off the truck, or removing the heads for that matter. Our 04 has never had issues with puking or anything so the head gasket should be fine. Future plans include sct, gauges, and exhaust. Do I even need studs at these power levels?
Hey all! You guys can cut out the middleman and order them right from ARP, in Santa Paula, California. And yes they are expensive, but so is the labor to do it twice! DALEDIESEL

If you're not having headgasket problems then I would NOT unseal them. You can replace them one at a time, but it's a crappy repair and you take a SERIOUS chance of unsealing them. I know people that have had to do it and end up having to go back and do the repair again because the gaskets blow. The motor can come out the front of the truck--you don't have to lift the cab. It's a squeeze, but VERY doable.
FWIW--you can run some fairly serious HP increases SAFELY on stock headbolts IF you're not already having problems. You just can't go crazy.
i know where you can get them for about 100 dollars LESS than the prices i've seen on this thread. a well known vendor on one of the other boards, dont know if they are on this forum.
PM me if you want info and pricing, i dont wanna post in the open forum and step on anyone's toes.
I just had my HG's replaced as well as installing ARP headstuds. The dealership was willing to do it, so I figured what the heck. I wasn't having any puking issues before and now I just checked after a 1500 mile trip and no problems afterwards. I definitely think you should get the ARP's installed if a dealership is willing to do them under warranty and all you have to buy is the studs, especially if you plan on keeping the truck after the warranty runs out (as it will be a very expensive fix after that).
