I am trying to revive a WDS at my dealer and have run into a problem. I have reloaded the OS and WDS software and everything works great when the PTU is docked. As soon as I undock it, the PTU will restart by itself and run scandisk then when it almost gets to the select vehicle screen it will restart again. If I turn it on while undocked it will boot normally and then restart by itself right before the select vehicle screen. I have conditioned the battery and diagnostics says it is 100% charged and has no fault codes. I would really like to get this thing going so I can move it to my bay and not have to share an IDS with 8 other techs. I know it is obsolete but it connects faster than our IDS and the touch screen is a lot better than a laptop mouse pad.
Ford discontinued the WDS in 2006 so I have the latest update up until then. I havent tried hooking it up to a vehicle but it shouldn't reboot by itself when undocking. I'm going to try the other WDS in the shop tomorrow and see if this one has a hardware problem. Thanks for the reply. BTW, have you ever used one?
Not that new of one. I used a Jaguar system (same basic machine) back in 2000 and it was very temperamental, would randomly reboot then an update made it do the same thing yours is doing.
