I have a 2001 f-250 with 5.4L and the #6 piston is burn't. Theres 160,000 highway miles on the motor. Thinking of putting a good used motor in, but also considering repair. Whats the normal life of these engines. Suggestions? Thank You.
I just rebuilt my 5.4 '01 SuperCrew's engine a month ago. Set me back $750. Required absolutely no machine work. The rebuild was easy, getting the engine in and out of the mounts was tough. Had heads rebuilt for $90 each, bought gaskets, head bolts, bearings and rings from the same machine shop. Engines now days are a lot better than what we're used to. There was absolutely no wear on the cam, crank or cylinder walls. I had leaky valve guides on one cylinder that caused oil burn, fouled plugs and oil in the intake. Sounds like your having the same issues. I recommend the rebuild.
i havent decided to rebuild or replace because i need a tune up but i havent had any trouble out of my motor butt im about to twin turbo it so i have to either replace with a new one or rebuild the old one so any ideas where i can
