Bertha66, does your engine "Hunt" when idling, (ryhmically speed up & then slow down). I believe yours might have a vacuum line connected to the Fuel pressure regulator. If it does make sure it works, pretty sure this is meant to drop the Fuel pressure about 5 PSI at idle. Fuel pressure affects mixture as does injector pulse width, sticky or Leaky injector pintle valves could also do this. Can you check the pressure in the fuel rails with key on engine off. Should hold pressure for several minutes without dropping . (turn key off after pressurising the fuel system).

Let us know,
Aeroman.
Yes, there is a vacumn line on the reg. and it is good. fusl pressure does not leak down. No "hunting" when idling, she runs smooth. My wife took her in to a differant shop with a differant computer and after they had it all day the only code that came up was for a to low idle. The shop did think that the CPU maybe failing, but could not be sure of that. Right now she is running very good, but the CEL will come on at about 16 miles from home, does not efect the way it runs. So I will see about pulling the CPU out of the other Aero, it is a 91 AWD with the 4.0 and switch them. Thanks
Have you checked the wires with an ohm meter to see if they are within spec? I know I bought a new set of wires from autozone and returned them because they were worse then the used oem wires they were replacing.
When I had the problem of the CEL coming on after a longish drive with no other symptoms, it was found to be the HEGO sensor. I don't think I saw that you have checked or changed it recently. It's a pretty cheap part, and at the age of your van, it's probably a good idea to change it if you haven't already.

HEGO, what is it and where do I find it, sorry it's a new one on me. And what does it do?
The CEL came on last night and the wife took it back to have the computer hooked up and this time they got a code 41 lean bank and got a reading on the O2 sensor and it was low. So it looks like 96_4wdr may be right, I hope so. My wife is home today putting it in, so we will see how it works later.
Code 41 No o2 sensor switching , system indicates lean.
O2 sensor could be faulty or you could have an air leak in the fuel intakes /ex system before upstream 02 sensor. Vac lines, pcv hose, INTAKE plenum leak somewhere ("O seals) unmetered air could be getting into your intakes. This can be a tough one to fix the F150 is plagued with this code (OBD2 version).
The computer will increase fuel injector on time to try & correct for the excess o2 signal.
Are your MPG's low?
Well good news, she is running good now. When the HCT went out and carboned up the plugs, it did the same to the O2 sensor. With the new HCT and a new O2 sensor things are back to normal. Thanks to all for the help.
