My 87 Mustang did this until I replaced the ignition control module... Is it possible that your coil is overheating?

Make sure your vacume advance is working on the distributor and is hooked up to the correct vacume port
Also, with the engine off, (cold engine) climb up and see if the accellerator pump works by watching inside the venturis while you pump the accelerator.
