92 f150 5.0. Extremely high idle! Still cant figure the problem out. New IAC, coffee can, plugs, wires, set timing, new filters. What is goig on here? Have tried starting fluid around intake no vacuum leaks. Checked all vacuum line for leaks no leaks. when engine hot idle very high and i can shut it off for 30 seconds then restart it and idles fine until driven a couple of miles then idle goes back up. When truck setting in driveway i got it running and idle goes way up tried unplugging the TPS and the idle went down where it should be. Could the TPS be bad? I tried another one that is supposed to be good and soon as i plug it in the idle goes way up. WTH is going on. I tried a new Computer but \had same results with it. Help b4 I buy a stick of dynamite!
I have the same truck and have had this problem for 13 years. I have changed everything but the computer. I have subscribed to this thread in hopes of someone having a confirmed fix. Good luck.
This sounds crazy! Well, there are 2 things that "could" lead to this that I've not noticed mentioned here. On 302 engines, there is a sensor on the power steering pump that kicks up the idle when you turn. Maybe that could be causing a fault that could make it go too high??
Also, I once had a 84 Chevy van with a 305 and a 4 barrel Quad Jet Carb that had a high idle issue. If you shut it off and started it, it would idle fine. As SOON as you touched the gas, the idle would fully go down. Turns out there is a servo thing mounted on the carb that has a bolt come out and push the throttle up. It's for the A/C system and should only kick on when the A/C is on. It was obviously messed up so I turned the screw in and fixed that problem. Now, I know these trucks don't have anything like that but I wasn't sure if there was a sensor that operates the idle. I wouldn't know but it's a suggestion.
