Hey,
got a 69 429 thunderjet in a 67 f250...tuned, timing set, idle set, new dist cap etc...idles smooth as silk...drive it a short distance, it stalls...difficult to re start, when it does start it will idle smooth then die quickly...like it's out of gas or the timing needs to be re set??? Ideas please. Thanks in advance
How long does it normally run before it stalls? The way you talk, it sounds like a fuel/ fuel delivery problem to me. Just throwing out ideas here, but there could be some junk in your gas tank that is plugging the pickup tube after it runs a little while, and then runs it out of fuel, or the fuel pump is going bad, or if you have one of those wire filters in your carb where the fuel line attaches, that could be clogged. I'm thinking that if it were a timing issue, it wouldnt ever run nicely, like you say it is. Good luck

Thanks Garrett...once it starts it idles smooth indefinitly, but drive it and it stalls, and it'll
run the battery down trying to start it again, has a new water pump, will check for fuel
delivery problem.
Oh, another question, does your truck have a manuel or automatic choke? Since its winter, if your choke is stuck closed, when you first start it and idle it should run good, but once you try driving any extended distance with your choke on it will sputter and can stall your truck, flooding the carb in the process. I know my truck has a manuel choke, and one night it my truck started running like crap, it was dark out, and I couldn't figure out why. Finally, I noticed my manual choke **** was pulled out. (I dont remember putting it on, whatever) I pushed it in and it ran normal. Just an idea.

Checked it all out...blew out fuel lines...put in a new set of plugs started her up...
she would have run forever in park...scotched the wheels...she ran over 30 mins in
gear...I added some gas...started surging, cut off in a few mins but started right back.
Had fair amount of blow by...some of the old plugs looked like the weren't firing???
