payload

I have a 99 F150 2wd extended cab. The GVWR is 6050lbs. I don't know how much the truck weighs so I was hoping someone might know the payload off hand.

Thanks

Just off the top of my head, I think your vehicle weighs about 4300 lbs. So 6050-4300 = 1750 lbs. In the GVWR you also have to include the load inside the truck, such as yourself and other such items. The more weight in the truck the less payload you have available.

Sorry, don't have '99 specs in front of me. To pin it down you'd need more details. However for '98, FORD did not even list a "6050lbs" GVWR for an "extended cab" in sales lit. That GVWR appears only in the "REGULAR CAB" 5.4 list. The 6050lbs GVWR 2wd Styleside w/120" wb, 6.5' box had Payload of 1805 lb & the 139" wb, 8' box 1690 lb & 1795 lb for Flareside. They listed 5.4 "SUPERCAB" w/6250 lbs GVWR.

Go to msn.com under the auto section, it will tell you alot of things like payload, tow rating, hp and torque, etc.

If you have the owners manual it will break it down for you. Everything from transmission, engine and body style effect it. But everything other than a Screw should be able to handle up to 2K lbs at short distances at the very least.

When I was a kid my Uncle had a beat, very early, dark green, F100, dual water pump, Flathead V8. I recall helping him loading it until the springs had gone down to the stops with firewood. He watched carefully, not wanting to overload it beyond that point. Wonder what those loads weighed? Did Mythbusters ever do an Overload segment?

When it absolutely must be moved I don't go that far, preferring to always leave a couple of inches of spring travel on the Econolines I've owned since the 70's. Paying attention to how much the bumper goes down becomes as precise as a spring balance scale once you get familiar with how a vehicle handles.
