I have a 351c 4v with a c6 that a got when I bought a 57 Mercury panel .The engine runs great.I'm planning to change it.What if anything is this engine and or the trans worth?
I have 2, 351 Cleveland's 4-V with C-6's. These are great motors. The only problem is with the 4-V heads. The ports are too large for normal street driving and the valves are as big as a big block chevy. But twist it to 7000 plus and they really work well. As to changing to a 400, the block is different from the Cleveland. It's like the 429 style and the Cleveland is like the 260-289-302-351 Windsors. I've swapped some Clevelands into cars that had 351M's and 400's. Have to use different motor mounts and transmissions. Find some Aussie 2 bbl heads (that'll keep the compression around 10 to 1 like the 4bbl heads) and they'll work better on the street and give you lot's of power. The motors I have are factory rated at 280 HP (71 vintage) stock. But if you sell your engine, see which version you have first, you may have lucked into a BOSS 351 or maybe a 351 CJ both of which are worth a bunch more than a standard 351 4bbl (Boss 351 has a rating of 330 HP and the CJ I think, is 285 or 300??)
