alright guys im gathering ideas for my build this summer and im stuck. i want to use a dana 44 to save weight but ill be pushing its limits with 36s i think. i know i could go chromo and all that but i want to try and save some money first to get everything done. which 44s are better and can someone tell me the lengths from diff to Cs on them. i tried searching but i cant get a straight answer.
i may be wrong but i think all ford d44 are comparable strength wise.....then just run the stockers, which i will bet you will be fine with for a long while unless your pushing some serious hp/tq.....then just upgrade to some cheapo chromos (if your worried about price) which are very affordable and seem to be pretty strong....
i read on pirate that there are several different tube sizes but i couldnt find anything ford specific. i need to know the lengths so i can get an idea of how much im gonna have to cut down. it would be nice if i could cut them down and just run drivers side axles on both sides but i know im not that lucky.
thanks quad i was trying to find something like that but iall i kept getting was someone putting a 44 in there jeep or parts for them nothing like that.
Pay close attention to the part about the 76-77 D44 axles and the tubes in that article. It sort of makes you think a bit, especially if you want to do the swap using leaf springs instead of coils.
Don't get me wronk I run a 79 axle in my 95, and I'm putting a 79 axle in my ranger, it just makes you wonder if something goes horribly wrong. As long as you stick with a coil spring setup, you'll be fine, it's just doing the the conversion with leaves that you have to watch for.
i will be building a 4 linked ranger with 36s, 351v8, twin sticked 205, d44 and 9in for trails and mudd. eventually i have a turbo setup that i will be putting on it but that still has a few things to be worked out. im going to do things right but for as cheap as possiable. i dont mind spending the money if i have too, but why if i dont. junk yards are my best friend...lol
Should be a pretty light truck and the D44 shouldn't have any problems with the 36s, and I wouldn't even think chromo until you break a shaft(but when if you do, yukon is a possiblity, but alloy usa would be best).
whats the story on those axles? they stock or got anything in them (i.e .chromo shafts, lockers etc)? I am getting ready to buy the parts for my rangers D-44 and 9", but if you've got a set that is ready to run, I might be mone yahead to get them from you... Pm me with the specs an what you want for them. I just need them before May so we have some time for you to swap out, jsut not too muc has I need the rear to weld the suspension parts to....
Sounds like your gonna build similar to what I am currently building, except for the BB I'm putting in and not too much of a lift to mud race it. But coilovers/ladder bars in rear and coilovers/stock radius arms up front...
