5 speeds instead of 4, stronger, requires SW only the 6.0s have, very difficult and probably overly costly to try and stick in a 7.3. You could probably get a BTS 4r100 cheaper than it would be to get the tranny and make all the mods to get it to work...
Except that the bolt pattern is different and it won't bolt to a 7.3L.
Can we blame the Ford transmission engineering part of the corporation for the 4R100? I'm on my 3rd one of these jokes and not real happy about it. I would like nothing better than to be able to put something a lot better in, but just don't have the money for it. What was their thinking at the time to put this junk behind maybe the best engine they have ever offered?

i personally believe anyone with tuners/programmers cant complain about the trannys..putting in a chip you are willingly taking the risk of destroying parts not designed to take the extra HP you are putting to them
gotta pay to play.
oh, and i bet a BTS trans would be worth the cost of 2-3 cheap rebuilds.
I have read on here before that installing the Torqshift 5R100 into an earlier powerstroke is next to impossible due to computer/electronic issues. The bolt pattern doesn't match up either, but I'm sure that could be overcome alot easier then installing an entirely different PCM to match up to the better tranny. I have read nothing but good things about the Torqshift, it's FAR SUPERIOR then our 4R100 tranny. We just have to pay some $$$ to beef it up beyond Torqshift standards with BTS....John Wood....etc.
