block heater
I have a 2002 F250SD 4WD Crew with a block heater (I guess from the factory since I bought it with it installed).. how do I check to see if its working, plugged in doesn't seem to heat anything.. start it in the morning and its still cold? its a 7.3L diesel by the way..

You can use an ohm meter and check the plug for resistance. On all 3 of my 7.3's the plugs went bad over time. You can either replace the cord, or buy a plug and replace the plug yourself. The end of it gets worn over time that you can see some green showing through at the plug where the wire goes into the plug.

You will also hear it when you plug it in. It will start to crackle like a coffee pot or water boiling. Coolant system service is even more of a "must" when using a block heater. Contamination (acidic) will take out a block heater in short order. Coolant sys should be flushed and refilled w/o using tap H20. Then PH checked every 6mo.
