Does anyone have a recommendation on replacing a blown rear subwoofer in my 97 ford Expedition? I went to a car stereo place and they said it was a dealer specific item. I called the dealer and they said it was discontinued. I saw some posts from years ago but those items were discontinued. the sounds system in the vehicle is the stock EB Mach sound system.
I am also having trouble removing the blown speaker. I have the panael off and all the screws removed but I am unable to pull it out. Can anyone give me the 411 on this.
I did not connect mine to the original because I put in a complete new system with two amps, mp3 and all new speakers. Look in my gallery. The 10 in Kicker fit with just minor trimming to the original box.
MTX make two different ones for the expedition, one with a built in amplifier (which I just installed in my expy last weekend) and the one your refering to is the non-amplified one which would require a seperate amplifier
Depending on where you are, most custom audio shops can do some amazing things in that space (I am an Installer for Tweeter). We used to carry MTX and from my experience they are very poor for what they cost, you'd be better spending your money getting a custom box made.
Also if you just want to replace the woofer itself, you can steal it out of an Exploder as they use the same woofer. Also a JL 10w0 4ohm will work ok as they are very power sensitive and your factory amp does not put out much.
I agree with bandvan, I am also an installer have been for quite a few years, the JL 10w0 is a great sub especially for the $. If you have a dremmel or a small die grinder with a cutting bit (1/8 drill bit or roto zip bit) just trim the inside of the hole for the woofer. I have a 2001 Lincoln Nav with a blown factory sub and the amp was bad. Might wanna check the amp out or see if the woofer is for sure bad by taking a 12/14v cordless drill battery and try poping the speaker. Just for record my 97 explorer has 4 JL13w0s and it is not right Also RE is a good sub, a little more pricy but works well in a small enclosure
True, the MTX is a little pricy, but it's a huge improvement over the stock sub. Much deeper bass, and lots of it. Sure there's cheaper fixes, but I myself am more than satisfied with the MTX.
My subwoofer stopped working in my 2000 Expedition. I have the Mach Audio system.
How can you tell or troubleshoot whether it's the power amp or the subwoofer that's blown?
