When I crank my 1978 351(M) up the carb catches on fire.I just put on new wires, cap, and rotor. The wires are hooked up right and i havent moved the distributor. Some people are telling me its the timing, but if I didnt turn the distributor how could the timing be off?Any ideas of what causes the carb to catch fire?
According to the haynes manual the wires are hooked up correctly.I thought they might have had a misprint so i rummaged through my garage and found the old cap and wires and they were hooked up the same way.Today i had the choke on and it ran and wouldnt cut off but the engine couldn't accelerate and the carb was still spitting fire.Poured straght gasoline in it and it seemed to run fine, but it started up again.
