How do I make 700hp?

I was wondering what exactly you guys think I would need to do to my truck to get it running anywhere from 650 to 700 RWHP. How much bottom end work will need to be done? Connecting rods, bearings, and head studs I would imagine are a must. I have been looking at getting a Sledgehammer turbo from swamps, an intercooler, Stealth HPOP, and 490/xxx or 530 hybrids with custom tunes. At the moment I have an S&B cold air intake, 3" dp and 4" exhaust (soon to be getting 7" stacks) and a Superchips programmer. The tranny I have has been rebuilt with a custom tq converter, shift kit and perhaps new vavlebody (not sure exactly, the tranny shop in town is still working out some problems were the tranny holds onto the gear too long and then gives you wiplash when it finally shifts). What are do you gurus (and everyone else) think about this?

about $7,500-$10,000+
and $4,000+ alone of that is going to a trans that can handle 700+ HP
So probably even more than that
But let us know if you get there cheaper
Good Luck

? huh ? 10k including a tranny?

Lets add-

Rods - 2.6k
Girdle- 1k
Machine work- 2k atleast
Head work- 1k
Turbo kit- 3.5k
hpop- 2k
injs- 3k
tuning-? 1k
tranny- 4.5k
other misc- 1.5k

quick list comes up to 21.1k and there is always even more to it then that with little things here and there. 700 hp on fuel (or on nos) is not cheap by any means.

I just threw that number out there because I didn't want him to think that power was going to come cheap. Obviously this is more of a joke I think, as I would Imagine he doesn't realistically think he's going to get that power out of his truck "Just upgrading from a superchips"...

NOW! I could be mistaken, and this guy could be serious.... But like you said... Going to take 20K+ to get it there... Not trying to sound mean just seems like an unrealistic goal. May want to set a goal of say 450HP to start... Still won't be cheap but more economically feasible than 700HP...

It is definetly no easy task with the ole PSD and if you are serious about that much power be prepared to ride out alot of differnt broken parts and lots of $$$$ spent. Kinda why I went with a Cummins cuse for the same amount of money spent I could have close to twice the hp and not worry about it granading quite as much. I would say I am in the 700hp range on fuel right now, drive it daily and its done on a stock bottom end. Stock bottom end is good to 1300hp before the rods start to give you the finger.

Its just a #s game for bench racing.
And bean did not get into what you are going to spend on the chassis to hold the power. For street as soon as you hit the 500Hp mark to the wheels you need chassis work. Its all pointless if you cannot put it to the pavement. Then start braking parts
Its a kick in the pants to build bigger power and go slower!

I was planning on doing it without drugs, water methanol most likely though. And as it turns out my dad has a 2006 C6 corvette (not the Z06) which is what I am looking to beat.

For the record I am dead serious about this! I know it will take copious amounts of money to do but I am fully prepared to spend it. I imagine I will fall short of 700hp but it is what I am shooting for.

ya, i'd just go find a 7.3L in the junkyard and start from scratch... might be a little more expensive but would save you time in the long run...

What head work would need to get done? What kind of machining would be needed?

well, FMI (for my info) what kind of HP and TQ is a 7.3 bottom end good for, and at what point do you need head studs, ect? i was told 600 hp and 1000 tq without going into bottom end. and i was told that we were good for 30-35 psi boost. am i right or even close?

i think the stock rods are good up to around 450-500hp. Head gaskets w/o studs are around 40psi. I think stock head gaskets with studs are good for around 500hp as well. Above that a fire rings are a good idea. valve springs are another issue with high boost.
