Has anyone tried the Volant cold air system in an 05 or comparable F150? I've been looking around and it seems to be logically the best design for keeping the hot air of the engine compartment out of the intake. I'm open for suggestions and not set on any particular brand. I just connected my new Edge Evolution and am looking to help my engine breath better.
I'm doing the same thing. I checked several of the forums and most users seem to like the Volant. I'm just waiting for the kit to come with the Power Core element. I just got an email back from them and it's in stock, so I will be ordering it this week.
You can't go wrong. I've had mine installed for 17 months. Great sound when you punch it. I got about 2 mpg more(if I keep my foot out of it). With the Edge
it runs better.
I chose the Volant for my 06 5.4 and love it. Super easy to install and as noted great sound when you punch it. I've seen mileage improve about 1mpg but with that sound I have a hard time keeping my foot off the floor. Got to go after a power core filter for it, but overall I'm very pleased. I think the enclosed box alone puts it over the top of most other models and it looks great under the hood.
Mine has been in for a year now. Much increased throttle response. Should have done the CAI before the exhaust. Didn't notice any performance difference with cat back. 20.2 mpg at 80 on a round trip from Cheyenne to DIA. 19.2 round trip Cheyenne to Grand Junction not babying it. Looking at a tuner now for the drive-by-wire and trans fixes only.
Are you all using the air scoop or without? I have the fog lights, so I cant use the scoop. Plus, the pics I have seen, the intake opening doesnt look very big. Just doesnt look like it could get enough flow. Maybe I am just over analyzing???
I used to do water ingestion testing and I definitely wouldn't run the snorkel. I just ordered my Volant with the power core. Will be here tomorrow! It's going to be a fun weekend
No, I overpaid! Mine was $370 . I was looking on various websites, but couldn't find one with the power flow even when I searched by the part number, so I went to my local shop in town. When I got the Edge last week, they showed the part number, but it wasn't available. I emailed Volant and Daniel said they were now in stock, so I went back and when they checked, they had them in the warehouse! Even the service rep was surprised. I just bit the bullet and ordered one.
I'm running mind without the air scoop. I do so because I bought mine used and the original owner did not have the scoop. Although i too have the foglights and doubt the scoop would work. In addition to the opening where the scoop would fit, the box has a whole in the side where a rubber seal fits outside and seals between the box and the inside fender wall, at the whole where the OEM intake was. So it appears it sucks air from both locations. In either case, I've had no problems running without the scoop.
