Will a 383 Cleveland (351C stroker) do a better 1/4 mile time than a stock 351? I know it should make more hp and torque, but won't a longer stroke cut down on its ability to rev quickly?

It's ability to Rev Quickly will be off set by the greater Torque this motor will make.Torque is what make you go forward so if you have more of it you should go forward faster.
My theory is that the shorter stroke 351 will rev faster than a 383 IF the trans is in neutral. All you are dealing with is the internal friction and weight of the reciprocating assembly.
Once there is a load, I would think the more powerful engine would overcome the load faster and will be the one that revs more quickly.
I have a mate with a 302 that goes like hell on short drags, and he says it's due to the short stroke, of the 302. When another bloke told me he stroked his 302 out to 383, and was beating every 308 commodore he went up against, it just got me wondering.
Yes, going to a longer stroke decreases you upper rpm performance compared to your lower end, but it still makes more power at higher RPMs compared to a stock engine.
As was mentioned earlier, the extra power will move the car faster, resulting in faster revving. For drag racing, bottom end is kind of more important...
The fact a car runs faster in the 1/4 has no bearing on how quickly the motor revs. If the motor makes a ton of mid rage torque, then keeping the motor in the torque band longer will make it run faster. My stock rod cleveland has run 6.18 in the 1/8 using a 4.86 gear. A buddy who has a BIG bbc, uses a 4.11 gear, and his car runs 5.80's. My car rev's a ton quicker than his, but his car is faster becouse it makes more torque and HP. My little motor makes no low end torque, but makes a bunch of upper rpm HP, that's what makes my car run the way it does. My buddy's motor makes a bunch of low and mid range torque, that's why his runs the way it does.
To answer the originall question, a stroked cleveland will outrun a stock stroke celveand if both motors are built equally. But, the bigger motor wont necassarily rev quicker, it will just make more power.
