There`s a fine line between common sense when dealing with safety issues and stupidity, too bad that common sense sometimes flies out the window depending where you go for the inspection......
Of course greed and commissions can play a part in these inspections. I got put thru a wringer because the inspection shop was very empty being very hungry while hunting for the damned all mighty commission (maybe next month`s rent?) all under the pretense of safety.....
The next shop treated me very fairly using common sense without compromising their inspection record in the least.
Take a guess where I`m headed for next time.....
thats what i mean. there's little things that don't mean a damn for safety's sake so who cares. if the front end is tight, brakes work, horn and lights work, who gives a whoot about the rest of it. my '96 failed the safety because the battery wasn't strapped down... how dumb is that. my horn didn't seem loud enough....i soon told him where the horn would be if he kept up the BS. i'm not a total dummy!!
That`s the part I hate, to be treated like a dummy...
I know when a tie rod end is worn out, when it isn`t and over charging for it really po`ed me!
The down side is you argue you lose. You won`t get your inspection passed that day if you want to take the matter higher up.
I guess sometimes they kinda go overboard with the inspections. I remember I had a truck fail due to a very minor oil leak. Im talking very minor. Like cmon!
There is both sides of the saftey inspection fence but it shouldn`t be so one sided if the inspection shop wants to rip you off for nothing more than their own personal gain!
SGI have a look at their track record once in a while and have a customer rating system in place.
Yep and the stupid part is I knew I should tie the battery down with at least a temporary tarp strap.
There was just too many last minute things to do on the maiden voyage, too big a hurry but I had lots of time afterwards to fix!
