ok.. i dont do too bad.. i make about 1500 a month.. i take home about 1000.. its just that this truck is gonna be on the streets 80% of the time... my buddies have dana 60s and high HP 350's on 40s and 44 in their chevies... i just wanted to do a little something for the fords... but i cant really afford to be the first one of us with rocks...
i mean if i saved i could but its kind of an all or nothing situation right now..
i spent a lot on my engine and i wanted a fast truck.. but now everyone is goin even higher with their trucks.. i gotta show em ford still beats their a double s.
I think you are bouncing around a good idea. SAVE, then build. Do the Fords a favor and dont embarass by copy catting the chebbies. I guarantee you that if you put on a 6" lift and 35's with proper gearing you can go places that would just plain embarrass them.
And remember=speed kills. A lifted truck kills even faster at speed. Put that motor where it belongs. In a MUSTANG.
So, you want to do all this just to show up your buddies?
...really?
Are you honestly that insecure?
You really want to show 'em up, learn how to wheel right, get some good quality 35's and a decent lift, and beat them through the trails. The smirks come right off when you take a rig with much less money in it and beat some more expensive stuff.
ok STG.. you dont have to be an a**.. i asked a question about my ttb.. i know it stinks but hey im a struggling high school student.. my options are limited...
In fairness to STG I don't think he was being an ***, he is concerned for your welfare (and his own, he has to share the roads with you!) and your pocket (if you start breaking things by pushing things like front axles too far... it gets much more expensive than if you had done things right the first time).
As for your options being limited because you are in high school, we have all been there, and understand. First the trick is to learn so you understand what you are doing to your truck with such modifications so you can do them in a safe and inexpensive manner.
Heck, I would like a Ford GT, I can't affort one (doesn't mean I would say no if someone were to leave one if my garage )... I am not going to loose sleep over it.
So with all due respect sir, take his advice as it was intended - advice

its not insecurity.. its just ill be the only really big ford.. and a bigger sack than any of them... they would be scared to even try to out mud me.. i can keep up with em right now... until we start gettin into the icky sticky... that just requires more ground clearance and much bigger more aggressive tires.
I'd just be happy with that, because, as has been said, the SAS and the big turrs and the subsequent breaking of stuffs is going to be -expensive-. Just hold your cash for now and then do it right. I know, it's frustrating, I'm broke too. But in the end, you'll be waaaay more happy.
Well, first thing, get rid of the POS BFG's in the mud!!! Go get another set of wheels, mount up a set of boggers to go play with. Keep the BFG's where they belong, in the mall parking lot. That 300 I6 is a torqey motor if built right, and you are obviously on a budget. After that, save some $$, and ALOT of it if you want to build something that is going to be decent off road, handle well, a still be safe and won't break on you every time you get out in the back 40.

ah i love your truck stg, everytime i see it i start gettin excited to finally get one of my own! jsut gotta get my truck fixed so i can drive back and forth to work and save some money!
yep....showing off what it takes to have a decent purpose built mud truck that can live comfortably on the street. Sad thing is it needs more motor IMHO.
that really inspires me... ok say i forget the plans.. i already have a decent engine in it.. but i really wish i could put in my 351... it just begs to be unleashed... and as for the BFGs....... i work at discount tire.... and im on the streets more than mud....
BFG mud terrain is the highest rated and longest lasting mud tire on the market.
highest rated meaning, good wear, strong, long lasting, smooth ride, and warranty..
boggers will soon come but mileage is also a concern in my tires... they never let me down in the mud either yet...
as a matter of fact the only thing i have complaints with is the lack of sack in my I6
i have a crane cam kit, straight pipe exhaust and a free flow intake... and i still get stuck when it reaches my doors... maybe a new set of gears can help that... 4.10's?
