Explorer Overhead Console

I installed an Explorer Overhead console in my Ranger. I know there is a little ritual you have to go through to sync the compass. I was wondering if there is also something I must do to get the outside air temperature part to work properly? When I installed it 4 days ago the temperature read 45. The next day it climbed to 67. The actual temperature at the time was about 68-69, so I figured that was close enough. When I went out yesterday morning it was reading 45. Again only 2 or 3 degrees off the actual temperature. However it has been stuck at 45 for the last 2 days. Is there a problem with the gauge or is there something I need to be doing to get it to read the correct temperature? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Mine ('04 Ranger) works fine, my sensor is located near left headlight. The little parking lot ritual is for the compass only.
