crankshaft removal

If i was to replace the crank on a 79 250 4x4 would i have to remove engine from truck?

Removing the engine would be the easiest way.

rustynuts, I agree with Brian S. If you have a decent place to work and the tools to pull it out, do it.

One way or another you are going to have to split the motor from the bellhousing.

Nothing any more frustrating than fighting around in close quarters.
As always, my opinion only.

crankshaft removal

Gotta agree with everyone on this. Removing the crank is much easier out of the truck than under it.
