We did raclette for dinner. A raclette is an electric grill you put in the middle of the table. Like Swiss fondue, guests cook their own food from an assortment of meat, chicken, and veggies. The meal is served with bread, cheese and sauces with which guests can garnish the grilled meats and veggies. Cooking together is a pleasant experience and encourages relaxed dinner conversation.
Underneath the raclette is a place that holds little frying pans you use to toast bread and melt cheese. It's a lot of fun
2 six packs of imported beer
1 bottle of wine
2 French breads sliced
2 large chicken breasts
1 package of beef cubes
half a pound sliced cheddar and swiss cheese
1 red pepper cut up
1 package of mushrooms cut up
1 onion cut up
butter
We found it handy to keep a can of pam cooking spray at the table to spray the raclette from time to time.
The downside was our dining table is a little small. We had to use TV dinner trays because the raclette took up all the space at the kitchen table. It was also a little hot for the guests sitting closets to the raclette. Next time we hope to have a larger dining table.
Has anyone tried raclette or have other party ideas to share?
sounds interesting, we been looking to mix things up with the food. we can't grill here at the apartment. i wonder if they have them at sears? we still have a $50 gift card.
We bought ours at WallyWorld. A Hamilton Beach. Big enough for a group of four and plenty hot. Only disappointment was the power cord is a little short.

Your own personal Benihana, without the Bruce Lee type chef.
I personally prefer doing a Chinese Hot-Pot though if you are doing the whole "everyone cooks thier own food" thing.
You can do a greater variety of vegies with it, and use more "eccentric" sauces.
I also find preparing all the usual (and some not so usual) toppings for pizza's and bases, and getting everyone to put one togethier to thier liking - then everyone can try each others (and argue about who's is better ) always makes for a good topic of conversation.
(My roast pumpkin, smoked chicken, spinach, pine nuts and haloumi of course is the best )
