working on a 302 to 351 swap, but I'm having problems finding a flexplate that fits the 351. (it's a mid 70's model mercruiser engine) I'm on my 3'rd one from O'reilly and it doesnt sit all the way back on the crank, it only go's about half way and stops. Any idea's, tips, or tricks would be appreciated.
trust me it crossed my mind, but I don't wont to screw any thing up. Also thought about drilling the holes out a little, but I don't think I should have too.
So is the flexplate you have tried a 351C Flex plate, a 351W flex plate or a 351M flexplate? Can you give me the part number of the flex plate they have given you? FRA201? or FRA205? When I go to work tomorrow I will try and post some possible flexplates.
what year is the 351w motor? if its pre 82 then it would be the same imbalance as the 302 if the 302 was pre 82 as well. so you could use the 302 flexplat on the 351w. if that doesnt fit then you dont have a 351w.
How close to they actually get ? I've got a block out of a Galaxie which used an ever so slightly thinner flexplate, along with a thin stiffener plate. ( Thanks again Number Dummy !! )
I'm sorry it took a few days for me to get back. I found that a 79 Ford pickup with a 351w and a C6 transmission takes a fra-202 flexplate. This flex plate should fit what you have.
