Hey everyone, about to head up north (about a 4 hour drive) to my buddys place to do some snowmobiling. Had 2 Very quick questions
Just ordered center chrome caps for my wheels (guy before me lost em) and i went to put em on - They just basically slide right on? Theres no locking mechanism?! Im worred becuase i just spent $90+ on these and they dont seem very secure
And two - Rubbing at the back wheels - i asume its just the brakes going bad but is there anything that could possibly go wrong or any other lingering problems? Its the back left (no ice or snow buildup, doesnt stop or get louder when i hit the brakes - totally dependent on my speed)
Caps just snap in place. I've never had one come off. If your left rear brake is dragging it is most likely the caliper pins have seized up and will need taking care of. Easiest fix is just a new caliper. Drive around for a few miles and then just feel all of the wheels with a bare hand. If one is dragging it will be noticeably hotter.
I kind of hurried that last post. If it has been hung up for very long you could very well need a rotor also. Not expensive, but a PITA to do. Especially in the frozen north this time of year.
I didn't mention the emergency brake shoes for a couple of reasons, 1, I never use mine, 2, I don't think I have read of anyone having a problem with them yet and I spend too much time reading stuff here. So I guess I am apologizing for not bringing it up.
You can adjust them if need be. A star wheel in the back, just like the old drum brakes. Remove ruber plug and use a screwdriver, I think turn wheel down till the pads touch the rotor, then back a very little.
