i have an 88 f150 with a 92 EFI 4.9L. when i got the truck, the first thing i noticed was the rats nest of wires throughout the the engine bay and along the frame. I found a few loose connections over the front driver's side wheel well, but the one that concerns me is hanging loose near the distributor. On the drivers side of the motor (from Back to front) is the oil pressure sending unit, the distributor, another sensor, and the some kind of electronic box. I never really noticed the second sensor before but i'm having small problems now so while tinkering with it, i saw there was a sensor broken off in the block. Im assuming that is what the loose plug goes to. Which sensor would this be, also, what is that electronic box in front of that.
i thought the knock sensor was at the back of these motors. if i manage to pull the busted up old sensor form the block (there's not much to grab onto and its very corroded) i'm not sure if the connection n the wiring harness is any good
because is been exposed way to long. how hard would it to get a new connection to wire in place of the original? could this sensor be what is causing my engine to drag at times (see "where is this extra power coming from" or "bad fueling problems")
That could be causing your intermittent surge of power. If the knock sensor is telling the engine to retard the timing all the time it definitely won't run right.
