I tried to search this subject with no luck. My buddy (Cummins owner) says Ford owns the Cummins engine. I told him Ford has nothing to do with Cummins or Dodge. Am I right?? He also said the reason Dodge never came out with four doors sooner is because of Ford. Any correct information is appreciated.
From what I understand, ford does own cummins, but sold the rights to use the motor to Dodge. Ford would have nothing to do with when Dodge came out with a four door truck. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
Ford does not own cummins, at one time back in the 80's Ford owned a good bit of cummins stock, but it was not a controlling intrest. the cummins stock was sold, and Ford outsourced to International for their diesel engines.
Dodge didnt build a true crew cab because they wereafraid to get into that market. think about it most CC trucks are traditionally sold to municipalities, and work fleets. the consumer version of the CC really is a young market. Ford had most of the contracts with the fleets, and Dodge was afraid they could not sell enough of to offset the cost to retool for the larger rear doors.

You can find the Cummins 5.9L in the F650 as a one motor option.
I can answer one of these questions. The 4 door one. Dodge has always struggled to keep 2 doors working right. The chance of having to deal with 4 of them all at the same time scared them.

If you're correct rbaker, I obviously did not research it. But because of bad experiences, I think Chrysler Corp is incapable of producing nothing but junk.
That is a different division of Ford. Dodge can't even get a crew cab, there quads are just as big as our SCs and the Mega cabs.... wow that thing really got beat with the ugly stick.

You must have previously owned a Dodge truck. I had a '99 x cab Hemi. Both rear doors stopped working from the inside when it was two years old.

I bought the fanciest 4 X 4 1 ton dually they offered in '95 only because my son was working for me and wanted it as his company truck. I learned within 6 months why I hated Chrysler, I could go on all day about what a piece of junk that was. I did a lot of damage to Dodge's image with that, as I also had a brand new PSD duelly Ford at the same time. Every town we would go to putting up steel buildings citizens would ask me to compare the 2 trucks, which between both of them I had nearly 100k invested. Oh, for the good old days!!
