I bought the fanciest 4 X 4 1 ton dually they offered in '95 only because my son was working for me and wanted it as his company truck. I learned within 6 months why I hated Chrysler, I could go on all day about what a piece of junk that was. I did a lot of damage to Dodge's image with that, as I also had a brand new PSD duelly Ford at the same time. Every town we would go to putting up steel buildings citizens would ask me to compare the 2 trucks, which between both of them I had nearly 100k invested. Oh, for the good old days!!
Yep, my Dodge was the biggest piece of junk I ever owned too. I will admit, it was fast and would boil the tires but man, it had a lot of problems. The rear doors wouldn't open from the inside and it went through SIX sets of brakes in 100,000 miles. Dealer fixed it a few times and then I said screw this and dumped it for less than I owed on it just to get rid of it. Bought my dad's '99 X-cab F-250 PSD that had 117,000 miles on it and drove it like crazy before buying the crew cab that I have now.
Also went through a water pump, clutch fan and a VSS sensor in that 100,000 miles. Oh, the dashboard cracked all to hell like all Dodges do also.
Ford does not own cummins, at one time back in the 80's Ford owned a good bit of cummins stock, but it was not a controlling intrest. the cummins stock was sold, and Ford outsourced to International for their diesel engines..
My fathers 06 ram 1500 (previously mine before i was blessed by god with the PSD) is the biggest joke. Its "Sporty and fast" but lacks low end grunt while towing. Good tire selections too! (sarcasm) lets put highway run flats on a work truck. I swear ive gotten stuck in 3-4" of mud (yes 4x4). Rear suspension is horrific, you bounce, twist, roll, and everything inbetween. The seats are terribly uncomfortable! AHH and yes this is in comparison with an 05' Mark LT (F-150). The F-150 frame, suspension, and powertrain is much more refined.
I drove Dodge full time 4x4 CC's gassers while I lived in Alaska all purchased after military use which means they had been pretty well maintained by the government. They did need frequent servicing but the junkyards were full of them. I would like to add that I don't really like to see American companies beat up verbally even though they might deserve it except GM perhaps because they have a foreign made engine. The country and our economy are going down the tubes fast and its going to take a miracle of God and alot of local pride to turn it around.
i am truely dicouraged from asking anyone one for valid info or tips now after what i ve just witnessed concerning the ford and cummins dilima. i think i should just go and buy a crotchrocket....
well i guess im blessed i have own 3 dodges 2 quad cabs and 1 extended cab (tho that was a dakota the other 2 were rams) and never had a single problem.well except a rear diff oil leak that took the diff and spider gears with it. but i always liked the rams.but i had to see what ford was working with this time when i got my truck...and they look better when they r hooked up.and i also thought dodge had the 4 door setup first.
