The throttle on my 98 f250 4.6 has been sticking lately. Usually I could get it unstuck by tapping the accelorator a couple time and the rpm's would drop down normal but the last time it did it I couldn't get it unstuck. I thought maybe the throttle cable at first but when I checked it, it had a little slack and moved freely when i pulled it with my hand near the throttle body. Also, the throttle lever on the throttle body was completely seated against the stop. Could this be due to the throttle body being a slightly clogged up and just needs to be cleaned? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Cleaning won't hurt anything as long as you use the right stuff. Get some throttle body cleaner, a clean rag, and have at it. The area directly behind the throttle plate is usually the worst.
my engine light was also on and the code was for "lean on bank 2". could this have had something to do with it. I should also mention that it was -50 all last week when this happened (I live in Alaska) so I am sure that was also a contributing factor.
I have had t.b's gum up but never stick. It also never gets that cold here in Indiana. The average temp lately has been around 15-20 during the day and 5-10 at night. I would think that with that kind of tempeature that your idle time would be fairly high, this could be a contributing factor to the gunk build up. Also you could be freezing up the t.b. with venturi effect. First thing i would do is to manually clean out the gunk. if that doesnt help, check your return spring. I suppose that it could weaken or break. if not maybe add an extra spring.
