my 1999 superduty f 250 will accellerate after about 5 minutes of driving and only drop back to idle at 2400rpms. i repaced throttle position sensor, throttle body and cable and it still does same thing. when i had original throttle body on i could tap it with a screwdriver and hammer and it would drop back to normal idle. out of ideas. any help is appreciated.
Have you checked that the throttle body blade closes all the way? Sometimes temperature change can cause the blade to stick to the bore. A very small trim with a dremel fixes that. Usually the foot pedal feels a little sticky when you first push on it and then it travels smoothly.
Clean inside of the throttle body with throttle body spray cleaner pay close attention to the blades as they will stick open, wipe with a clean rag, should be good to go.

I checked throttle plates and cleaned everything. replaced TPS twice. found that there was a recall on the throttle cable which included a replacement of the throttle body which i had done at dealership. same thing happened on way home. it doesnt actually stick but after about 5 min of driving it will rev up to 3000 rpms usually between 3 /4th gear and will only drop back to idle at 2400. i figured if it was the idle air control it wouldnt idle when it was first started? if i tap on the end of the throttle plate shaft it will drop back down. also, the check engine light has never come on. would it still show a code if it was IAC? thanks for the help

Normally the IAC wont show a code because its a Mechanical sticking issue, not an electrical issue, if its never been replaced, do it, its a very very common problem with fords, #1 in my book. also the EGR could be sticking open, and causing a vacuum leak, hope that helps, Chellie
