just curious if anyone in here has any experience with 12V generators. NOT alternators, lol. I got a free one from my uncle in law and its from a non ford, but was free. I transferred pulley and fins and hooked it up, but all my experience is with alternators and they put in more juice that the truck uses. Right now my generator puts in the 11.60V while running but every 30 sec or so it drops by .01V. When i put the throttle on it jumps back to 11.60/11.61V until I let off and then its back to where it was before i throttled up. Is this normal for generators? I figured it should be like an alternator and put in more than is used. I might have to take it to Karam and get it checked.
I wouldn't go to Karam. I got bad deals from them and they taken me. I deal with Labelles. He is fair and up front and they do good quality work. At decent prices too. I have had no problems with them. Karam did my starter on my Bobcat years ago and charged me over $500 with trade in. It never worked right and by the time I went to take it back warrenty gone on it. I went to labelles andthey took it apart and found it was never rebuilt inside. The outside was sandblasted and repainted. I heard from other that encountered the same problems from them. So I avoid them and warn others the same.
I know one of our trusted FTE persons also uses Labelles.
well i guess il go there tomorow and bring both gens and see what he has to say. I might try and convert my 6v one to 12 since its less costimizing and its smaller than the chevy 12v i got for nothing
Now you know how the "Disconnect battery cable and reconnect it with the engine running and problem with alternators" came from
I have to shake my head at people that recommend that test for alternators. That is like the worst thing you can do an alternator. I could go into a whole bunch of electrical theory but this isn't the thread or time (bed time )
