look just above the forum thread list there is a blue bar... first choice is "user CP" which means user control panel... click there on the user panel that comes up look at the left hand column and you'll see a section labeled "Private Messages" your options should be pretty clear from there

I also usually get a link in the upper right hand corner, right under your join date and post number. If it shows up for you just click on it. Also, when I first open the FTE board I get a notice that I have a private message.

And I get my notice at the Welcome CIAF( homade) at the top right hand side just next to the little truck logo and the text that reads: "Club Ford Truck Enthusiasts" The words "private Messages" are highlighted in blue and is a link as well. Seems like we all have different software or sumting. You could also set your preferences in the User CP to recieve an E-Mail on the PM and when you open your E-Mail, there is a direct link to the PM file. I normally go thru there and then select "text" rather than html and it loads fast. ( I have Vista Prem on this laptop) so your might look a bit different as my desktop with XT looks diff)
