Do these engines come with an automatic high idle? My buddy was showing me how his 6.0 has 3 different idle levels and since then I've been watching for mine to. I always leave it plugged in at night so when I crank it up in the morning it idles at about 600-650 RPM, it also has a deeper rumble. Today after sitting from 7:30 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. in one of the coldest days of the winter it cranked right up after a about 15 secs. of the "wait to start" light glowing. However, today it went straight to a higher idle at about 800 RPM.
-Thanks
P.S. I had the heat on full blast with the headlights on.
The difference in idle is due to oil thickness more than likely. The 99 and up trucks will start at a normal idle then after a while will kick the idle up. Ours will not kick it up unless you have and Aux. Idle Control like 79_250.
Any time Scott. No harm done!! Most things are exactly the same but just a few differenced. I wish the OBS did high idle like the SD!!
Scott I still haven't forgetten about the truck buying article I just haven't done anything with it. Maybe soon!!
This is odd to me because my 94' idi had a high idle from the factory so I would think my 97' powerstroke would. Although I know from experience that it does not. Do any of you know why this is? Is it because it was mchanical?
Probably because the same Ford engineer that came up with the EBPV decided it didn't need high idle to warm up. Surprised it took 3.5 years for that guy to get fired!!

Thanks Tim. I appreciate that.
It does bring a question to mind. Since y'all don't have a factory high idle, and given the expense of the APCM, why are there not more of you building idle controllers with a resistor and a rheostat?
I know there are minor differences in the throttle pedals between OBS and 99+, but you have the same TPS and IVS do you not? Should be a simple matter of wiring up your own adjustable idle controller.
I did one for mine years ago before you could get that option on a chip. I think I've still got it laying around. I could dig it out and post up how it was wired if there is any interest in such an animal.
Yeah it has been discussed here recently. I have everything I need other than the pot (just gotta order it one of these days!)right now to do it. I would prefer to have the high idle mod rather than the chip mainly cause you can vary the RPM with the mod.
