I'm trying to decide on a new pedal assembly and hoping some of you could provide your input. I want to keep the firewall as clean as possible and am having problems finding a vendor who can make this work. One more bit of information, the engine is EFI so don't have vacumn to work with.
As alwasy, I would appreciate your suggestions and comments.
I made my own hanging pedal assy for my 49. I had a pedal assy from a mid 90's Ford focus that I scavenged the brake pedal pivot, spring, and basic pedal from. I fabricated the bracket so taht the power booster/master cylinder could bolt through the firewall into the bracket. The bracket also bolts to the dash and ties in the steeering column mount (just like in new cars) to tie everything all together.
The hanging pedal assy bracket is fairly basic, some flat bar and some angle is all I used.
EFI should not effect the amount of vacuum and engine makes. There should be no noticable difference in vacuum between a carburated engine and an EFI engine. You only get wierd vacuum conditions on turbo charged or blown engines
The name has slipped my mind right now, but there is a manufacturer that makes a hanging pedal assembly that puts the MC under the dash. Every NA engine produces vacuum in the intake.
That's the one I was trying to remember. It might be a little tight tho, there isn't a lot of room under the dash. The other alternative for a smooth firewall is an underfloor unit using a stock style pedal.
If your trying to keep firewall clean inengine bay by eliminating booster, another option might be a Hydro-boost unit..which presents a whole new set of fab/hose problems to overcome.
May aso considera electric Vacume pump for the belcrank Kugel set-up mentioned above...my$.02
Has anyone installed a TCI pedal assembly in their truck. This unit looks like it would work better then the other ones I've seen.
