The cowl on my 250 was dimpled where the holes were to be drilled for the rivets. The hood was not dimpled. So I imagine it's a factory item but I didn't see a # or oval on it.
What I find suprising is how many different odd n ends show up on these trucks. I never knew there was a hood locater thing until that picture was shown. Just like the rear window defrost that was posted earlier.
It's crazy the amount of stuff that is out there for these trucks.
That was only used on Broncos and for pickups that came with the factory topper. In addition in that center latch, there are a pair of reinforced hood brackets that are bolted on after the hood hinges. In an event of an accident, the hood hinges will pierce the cowl.
73-79 trucks have a bad rep for popping hoods on their own.
never heard of / seen a 73-79 hood pop up by itself. they have a safety catch.
i had a 76 f150....every time my freind would say " man it would suck if the hood popped up at a time like this." that dang thing would pop. the last time it happened we left it on the side of the interstate.......other than that ive had none pop.
I asked a buddy of mine about this, here was his reply.

Is it true that the bracket is only found on Broncos and trucks that came with toppers? Why would that make a difference?
I hit a concrete abutment at 35 mph, just outside of the LH framerail. The hood was about 2" higher at the cowl (which was pushed in ALOT), but it was still latched. I could imagine that if the hood did come apart from the hinges, it would hit the A pillars and go upward. Not through them.

I don't understand either. My '79 doesn't have any sort of brackets. I took a hit in it in the RH front corner at maybe 15-20 one time and the hood didn't move.
