Right now i am runnin 3.5" into a single 4" stack; all round pipe. Now that my second stack has arrived, my plan was to go 3.5" into 2"x6" rectangular steel tubing on my deck, and have the two 4" stacks coming out of that.
Now i am thinkin, a 2"x6" rectangle has an area of 12 sq inches, as compared to 12.5 sq inches, the area of a circle with a 4" diameter, such as the stack. Now, i will be pushin the same amount of air, however, i am a little concerned out the flow of that air into and out of the square tubing. It is quite short and wide. Think that will be a concern for soot build up and poor air flow etc? I am hoping that dual 4" stacks will result in a better sound, air flow, and lower EGTs, especially once its 4" off the turbo to the stacks.
The square tubing is goin to work with my deck better, but do ya think its a bad idea? Maybe i am better off to go with 4" round pipe. What say yall?
I think i have major PMS. It is 1:26 am, and i got up out of bed to come and post this. I think i need help...
I am sure someone more experieced will come along to answer better but I see no real harm in using the rect. tubing. Minimal loss insq inches. The bigger issue is the 3.5" tubing before that. Bring that up to 4" also will help alot with egt. Are you fabricating this all yourself? If so, very nice!
i see harm, as far as flow goes , you exhaust will see 2 spots with pure 90* turns and T , instead 90* pipe elbow.and Y , what do you think that will do to you EGT and Flow? that would be considder as major restriction. i would do 4" pipe if i were you.
I know we were goin to do a splitter box to T into it, and put some small baffles in the ends to direct the air up, but i am still a little skeptical. Nice thin about the tubing is it blends onto the deck so much better than the 4" pipe, but i think i am gonna try and get a plan b or c here to use pipe.
