Yep, go with the "E" range tires those are the best you can get for these heavy vehicles!
Mine already had E`s on it when I bought it, but no rear sway bar. my X was very hard to keep in one lane and downright scarry when towing. the Hellwig fixed my wander, thanks to joe`s advice. so I hope the tires fix your wandering problem.
I would agree that Chazwiz's problem isn't his steering box. He has no play in his steering wheel which is what usually indicates the SB.
I am still wondering if the alignment specs of the X is not contributing to alot of our instability at speed. Someone posted that the specs for the F 250 truck is quite a bit different and I wonder if the castor on the X's were set up for ease of parking lot maneuvers (for the soccer moms) which would make the steering on the highway a bit 'twitchy'.
I wish there was an independent alignment shop near me to have this done. I may have to 'convince' a local shop to pull up the F250 specs and try that... will keep you all posted.

Ken,
You raise a good point...
I actually had my front camber intentionally adjusted more to the HIGH POSITIVE end of the Excursion specs. I am fortunate to have a great old-school front end shop local (that's ALL they do!). He ordered an aftermarket set of adjustable camber/caster fitting (not really sure what the 'proper' name is sorry). But these allow for a fairly wide range of adjustment. I had him move mine from the LOW side to the HIGH side of the spec range...
I think you may be onto something too...that depending on HOW the Ex LEFT the factory...those on the LOW side of the spec range my be more of the wander prone ones...since I've had mine shimmed to the positive side and created an ever so slight tow (in on the bottom and out on the top) my Ex requires very little steering inputs from me...EVEN when towing!
Probably 285/75/17 or 305/70/18. Havent decided on whether to go with D or E range tires, I wont be loading it down that much as my boat is only about 5000-5500 lbs loaded. I'll search around on this forum to see what people are using.
Chad
Are u putting the 285's on the stock rims? I have D range. I have found that the truck sways a little bit more since i have switched from E range to D range. Thank god my current tires are soon in need for repalcement.

I like the look for a larger diameter wheel so I may go with 18" wheels.
I recently becmase an ex owner and just ordered the American Racing Teflon Thug wheels in a 20" x 10". I have a 4" lift on the truck so I went with 35/12.50/20 toyo M/T's. I think it should look pretty tough.
Ok, what kind of rims are u going to get? Also are u gonna go with chrome or black on black?
Im not a big fan of black wheels I like a chrome or polished finish. I was thinking of Moto Metal or XD wheels, they have a few choices that I like.
Im sure this has been asked a million times on this forum but since Im writing now Ill ask anyway. Do you have any idea what backspacing and offset I would want to keep the tires under the fender wells? I'm probably going to get the Nitto Terra Grappler in a 285/65-18 which is 32.5" tall and 11.2" inches wide. Thats about 1" taller and 1" wider than stock. I dont want to go much taller because I dont want to deal with re-gearing or making the gas mileage any worse that it already is.
As far as the driving experience, its much better but there is still a hint of wander to it. However it doesnt feel like I'm driving a fishing boat anymore
I think I'm going to make a small adjustment to the steering box to see if that helps.
