I have to say they are one of the best upgrades I have made to my truck.
+1
I never thought that a shock could make such a difference! I ran my pretend rancho's (FX4 pkg) for almost 90K miles. My only regret was NOT replacing them 50K miles ago. I don't care how much they cost....or the color.
ok, here is a question for ya. which bilsteins? the hd are yellow and blue but the 5100 and 5150's are silver. shouldn't the 5100 be better then the hd's? I am thinking of buying a pair and cant stand the yellow and blue. anyone have the 5100's?
i tihnk that the 5100 series are designed for lifted trucks and the hd are for stock...IIRC they are basically the same shock internally but im not positive
The Bilstein HD's are for standard height trucks (I actually like the yellow and blue colour - you can tell they're Bilsteins). The Bilstein 5100's are for lifted trucks (silver and black).
As for the ride improvement - noticable on and off road. Haven't towed with them yet - it's winter up here, so not much chance I'll be towing the TT anytime soon.
Bilstein makes a leveling kit and it comes with the 5100's and new springs not perches. Shockwarehouse.com has them for a good price. Also, if you have a 350 or put the rear blocks in the back the 5100's should work. I think you really need the blocks to make the truck level, if you just added a leveling the front would ride higher than the rear.
