I am looking at purchasing a set of shocks. I know alot of people on here suggest bilstein shocks or Rancho shocks. I was just wondering if anyone had tried the Skyjacker 8000 shocks and what kind of luck they have had with them and how they ride. Thanks in advance for any advice given. Also I don't do any off ride driving.
I put 4 SJ 8000s on the ranger about 35k ago to replace the factory originals. Caught a great deal on ebay or I probably would have gone the cheaper Monroe route since the truck is never off road.
Glad I did it. Steering response, ride, handling, wheel hop all improved dramatically. After 2 1/2 years on the truck, they're still wearing all of thier cool red/white paint (no rust at all) and the bellows have held up fine too.
By comparison, I put 4 KYB gas adjusts on my boom truck a year ago and theyre covered in surface rust (but perform well).
was just a thread on this about a week ago, i just bought the skyjacker nitro 8000 and i love them! i didn't have money for expensive shocks a year ago so i put Monroe magnum on and not even a year they are shot. the fronts are still so so but the backs were totally shot. i installed them Thursday afternoon and i really absolutely love them, nitro shocks are slightly stiffer than the regular hydro but i love the feel and responsive of the nitro's. Allot of people on here swear by the new XL rancho's but i cant see spending 400 plus on a set of shocks. And i really like the other features of the skyjackers, poly bushings, big over sized seal for the piston rod and comes with a red booty.
I was thinking about some skyjacker to. I can get 4 shocks for $165 bucks vs $285 for bilstein and yes I know they are great shocks just not sure about spending the extra money. My last truck I put bilstein on and tought they rode a little stiff. So is the skjackers the way to go?
Thats the same thing I'm thinking is it worth spending the extra money for the Bilstein shocks. I'm kinda leaning towards the Skyjacker though. Just wish I knew a little more how they performed on these trucks.
The Skyjackers suit the ranger just fine and have not depreciated at all in over 30000 miles. That said, if it were my 08 SD I would take the couple of hundred dollar bath and put the Bilsteins on it. I swapped to a Bilstein stabilizer on that truck and the difference was night and day from the useless OEM. The finish on the Bilstein looks like stainless steel (its not) and if sheer weight is indicative of quality, its about twice the weight of OEM.
"Is it worth it?" is an impossible question to answer; far too subjective. That being said, we have yet to have anyone unsatisfied with the 5100's. In our opinion, for the money they really can't be beat.
Acer what is the best place to get Bilstein shocks from. I have a 2004 F250 6.0 diesel with no lift. It looks like every place I look the 5100's are for only lifted trucks. Any help is appreciated.
Are the yellow shocks "B6" just as good as the 5100's. I'm trying now to deicde between them and the Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks. I figure the extra money would be worth it. Just not sure on which ones to actually get. Even though from what I've seen it seems like they both are very good shocks. What would be the best place to get the B6 from?
