Was checking the Tech forum and cant find any info there so I thought I'd ask...
First, the "Boss" is asking "is this entirely necessary?" and "maybe there's a purpose for the 'grit'".... and "trucks have been running for a hundred years without coolant filters and they've been running just fine"....blah, blah,. blah........
After a search on this forum, I was hoping that someone would either chime in, post a link or something so I could do a little research on the subject of the necessity of adding a coolant filter to the 6.0
edit;
After doing some hunting here and there, I've found a mound of info regarding the install and the so called "grit" that kills water pumps.
I like the idea of making a kit from scratch using a Baldwin filter base, throw in a couple of shut off valves, a couple 'tees' and several clamps.
The only thing to fab is the mounting bracket.
Has anyone fab'd a bracket?
is there a better idea than what is included in the kits you buy?
I am thinking of using a small sheet Stainless, but don't have a brake for the 90 deg. bends,
Any thoughts on this project?

One way to save some $$'s would be to not install the valves. I use a couple of the small Stanley wood clamps (pistol grip / ratcheting type) on the hoses when I change my filter. Only a few drips - just as good as valves in my opinion - and I already had the clamps.
I'm with you Benchwrench, it looks like a pretty basic project. I have been getting together a parts list to build one myself. The bracket on the dieselsite system looks pretty simple. It looks like it's only about .05" thick, you could probably bend it in a vise at home.
funny this is on my list to do today, I have the parts list and found the base online for 35 bucks and I think you can do it pretty cheap but the bracket will be the kicker.........

maybe someone with a filter would be willing to give us the deminsions of the bracket.........
That would be great help.
Looks simple enough to obtain a small piece of metal and bend it, however buying the bracket by its self might be easier for most out there.
Also an ebay seller has the spin on filter bases for 35 clams, just might have a complete coolant filter kit for around 50 bucks!
if you go to napa you can get them to show you coolant filter kits and when I was looking some of the bases were molded so you didn't even need a bracket. If I remember right they were right around that $35 mark too. Never got one yet though.
I've just purchased the filter base and 3 filters from an ebay seller. Made him an offer for both and it came out to $99.90 with s&h. Now I just gotta fabricate the bracket, get some hoses, clamps, tees, and lines. I'll try to take some pics of the install. Should be fairly simple, although in hindsight, it's probably cheaper and less of a headache to get the kit from one of the sponsors. I saw one for $120.
I bought my filter base on ebay too, baldwin cfb5000, I offered them 25 bucks and they took it, 10 bucks for shipping so 35 total, I have found some valves at grainger.
well I have all my parts except the bracket, just waiting for it to stop raining so I can take some measurements and makke the bracket all in all I spent 98 bucks for everything...
