I've been thinking since Coon's post about back pressure while using the exhaust brake. I use mine all the time, towing or not. Don't have an extra 4 grand to get a fancy scanner So what would it take to hook up a gauge to read back pressure? Still haven't put any gauges in the truck, on my list to do for the summer. Figured w/a 3 gauge pod boost/egt/?? either a back pressure or air pressure to watch where my rear bags are at.
it is easy to rig up, all you need is a psi gauge good to 60 pounds, ie boost gauge, to hook it up all you have to do is remove the ebp sensor on the ft of the engine and screw a "t" into it. i beleive its 1\8 inch pipe thread. then you can tap your line into the "T"
i can draw one...lol but i havent done it yet, no time due to issues at work and at home. but it is easy to do, i am going to transfer my makeshift boost gauge over to the backpressure gauge, if someone else doesnt beat me to it i will post all the pics, hopefully this weekend
I figured their would be an easy way to do it, just haven't spent enuf time playing with the engine, sensors, etc yet. Any good manual or CD you guys recommend? Thanks for the info!
The other thing you ought to consider is Auto Enginuity, that is how I monitored my back pressure. It works very well and cost right around 300 dollars. It does buzz tests, cylinder contribution tests, reads EOT Trans oil temp and a plethera of other stuff, if you have a laptop already I would highly recommend it for its versatility.
i love the official ford manuals the best, i have copies for my truck, very handy when the mind goes blank.....it happens and i worry, i'm too young for that

Tell me about it, seems to be happening ALOT lately. I'll have to keep checking ebay for the ford manuals (got a complete set from the 70's but hey don't help with these trucks!).
The Auto Eneginuity sounds neat, being able to see the live feed would be nice. My hand held scanner is supose to be able to but it doesn't give me any data, only read and erase CEL's. Might have to save up the 500 bucks for the laptop w/enhancements. Darn work vans are giving me fits

i went to their website and their product looks really cool. do you just have the obdII scan stuff or did you get the "enhanced ford" program also?
Bill from what I remember Neal saying he had nylon tubing starting about 6 inches from the T so I don't think heat is a big factor but I do recall him saying the his gauges did stop working right and when he took it out it had black moisture/gummy stuff up at the gauge. Probably the same stuff that ruins the BP sensor and clogs the tube.
