When I use my switch which is very rarely, I lock it after the 2nd gear shift after the RPM's get up so as not to lug then engine too much. I use it more for decel coasting than anything.
So TJ you are saying that most of the time you are driving you dont use your switch? Is that okay to drive like that and just switch the TC to lock after you get going? I have heard that before but I just want to make sure.
Yes 99% of the time I don't use the switch. it ok to use it as long as you don't use it too soon or forget to turn it off when coming to a stop. I forgot twice to turn it off when coming to a stop and stalled the truck just like stopping a manual without the clutch. oops!!

Would it be possible to wire the throttle position switch in line so that the manual lock up switch had to be on and the gas pedal had to be pressed in order for the T/C to lock. That should prevent stalling since it would unlock as you lift your foot off the GO pedal.
The other idea I had was was to mount a normally closed momentary foot switch similar to the old floor mount headlight dimmer switches. It would be like a clutch you could hold in at red lights and then release to lock up the T/C.
Not sure if either idea is valid or if I am smoking the good stuff.

Both options could work but you still don't want the TC to lock too soon. Locking in first gear is bad, it would lug the motor too much at the 2nd gear shift. Pretty much my switch is mounted on the window switch panel and is very easy to reach. Just have to remember to take it off when it shouldn't be on. Mine also has an LED that shows when the TC is locked and a red LED for when it is manually locked. Very nice features especially when testing units like The Cure!! (shameless plug I know!!)
