My dad's '95 f350 was in a wreck almost a year ago and we're finally going to start puttin it back together and make a wheeling rig for him. Its a 5.8/e4od/d60/sterling10.25.
Anyway, we're thinking about shortening the wheelbase and looking for ideas on how short to go. Its a regular cab long bed, so we wouldn't be taking too much off... thoughts?
You can always leave the frame/wheelbase alone and just bob the bed
That would work out great. You'd have the stability of the long wheelbase, but the clearance angles to climb up and over crap. The only problem is you's have to come up with a 4 link coilover rear suspension setup to shorten the rear of the bed/frame enough to make it worthwhile.
I wouldn't shorten the wheel base, but either bobbing the bed or chopping a good bit of it and the frame off after the rear tire and then doing a little bob.
No idea on tires yet, he'll probably just start out with the same ones I have.. a waste with the one ton gear, but he's new to wheelin and not ready to dump a lot of cash into it yet. It has no bed on it right now. There isn't much to chop off after the rear hanger. Its a budget build for now.
Which bronco? lol.. I think I'm just going to take whatever is good off the one I just bought and throw it on mine, part out whats left, then take whatevers left after that to the scrap yard. That being said, I haven't had time to do any of that.
Yeah, that's what I was asking..... I know what you mean... I still don't have a front driveshaft, need to replace a brake line, add my carb and intake, put a cam and double roller timing chain, and now I'm thinking of putting chromoly shafts and ctm(or something similar) joints..... The money pit never ends, but I don't have time to do it.(well maybe if I'd get the heck off of here.
Still haveing that stupid clearance issue, but I talked to Ivan and he has a yoke I can use that will allow me to run my CV at the axle end, and my problems should be solved!
OR if that wouldn't work, I'm thinking about getting another bronco frame, and a tranny that came with a 205, and swapping my axles under it to make sure I have 4wd. So if you weren't so many states away, I'd take the frame off your hands after you part it out....
