Need help ?

I need a little help. I have a 76' f-150 Ranger xlt. With mismatched axels I think. It has what looks like a ford 9" with posi-track in the rear. I don’t think this was standard on 4x4s'. I don't know much about axles but I was able to get the tag number off the front one. I could use some help with breaking the code so that I can get a matching rear axle.

3.50 D6TA-BAD
603781-9

I also found a tag with some numbers under the hood on the fire wall. here they are I dont know what they mean or are.

F14YRC60268 21 424

MDL XLT RKR

The front is a 3.50 open diff D44. The rear had an option of a posi unit, so that is not a big issue, do you have the tag info from the rear or do you know what gears are in that?

I don't have the rear tag # and don't know the gears, but I'll look. I guess it should be attached to the bolts.

Ok I found some numbers on the rear axle. 6E25 was on what looked like a small tag on the pumpkin. Next to it was a small button tag with the number 19753 not sure on the order. I found a few more numbers by the yoke:
D2SW 106 2.

I'm a loss on those #'s. Worst case is you may have to pull it apart and count the teeth on the ring and pinion gears, then do the math.

You could jack the truck up and turn see how many times the driveshaft turns in one revolution of the tire if you don't feel like pulling it apart.

All the 70s F150s had a D44 front and a 9" rear. Most had 3.50 gears and a limited slip in the rear.
Sounds like what you have.
If you've used the 4wd and nothing broke, then the front and rear have the same gears.

All the numbers you found on the 9" mean nothing to me....
IF a tag would say 3L50 then you have 3.50 gears and a limited slip.

IF your really worried, you could either lift the rear axle and count the driveshaft revolutions it takes for the tire to make 1 full revolution(if the driveshaft turns 3.5 times, for 1 turn of the tire, sounds like 3.50 gears).
IF the axle is stock, and the tag is still there, then in the door jam there should be a tag that with a axle code.
If you post the code, I should be able to figure out what it is for you.
