Good as new. I put in a new long block and #8 acctually broke the rings and scorched the wall. I back up and running and hopefully no more engine problems for a good long time!!! Thanks for all of your help!

That's great.
I recommend caution when running that chip and a stock exhaust. At least straight pipe it and put in a pyrometer so you don't push the EGT too high.
IMO that's what killed the first motor, running it too hot, especially when towing.
The extra power is great for pulling that trailer up the hill, but the extra power must be made with extra fuel and heat.
The alternative is only use stock setting for when you pull the trailer.
I do a lot of towing. I own a cattle farm and the truck is used primarly for farm use. I have a 24' trailer on it about 3/4 of the time. I have a DP tuner but other than that I want to keep it stock and just have a realiable work horse. I am going to fix the motor and at least put a long block in it because it has a new turbo, injectors and glow plugs. Any thought would be helpful.
I re-read this post and am even more convinced that you need to get a bigger exhaust to vent the excess EGT's and a pyrometer so you can see when the EGTs are getting too hot.
Or have the 100% consistant discipline to turn the chip down to stock whenever you tow the trailer.
Even a mild tune like a tow tune will drive the EGT up and you have to be careful.
Personal limit for me when towing is 1150 when pulling a hill.
If I load the Tow/Haul tune I can hit 1400 pulling a grade.
I have Ford AIS air filter and have run the 6637 in the past. No difference in EGT between the two.
4" downpipe and 5" exhaust.
Still the egt likes to climb like that.
So I only tow on stock tune anymore, it still peaks above 1100 pulling a grade.

Wow, that was fast. Must be nice to have money. Where did you get it and did you do the swap yourself?
